Severe thunderstorms produced penny to ping pong ball sized hail, heavy rainfall, and high winds from around Mazon to Diamond and on east into Will and Kankakee counties yesterday evening. The storms passed about 4 miles south of the Goose Lake Weather station and produced only brief moderate rain here although vivid lightning could be seen from those storms. The image shows the storm total precipitation from that narrow band of storms in central Grundy county. Much heavier rains and flooding occurred further south.
