A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service Chicago for northern Illinois including the Goose Lake area. Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected over the next 48 to 72 hour that have the potential to produce heavy rain. Significant flash floods can occur in July. During the period of July 17-18, 1996, a new state record rainfall was set in Aurora, IL when that location recorded 16.94 inches in less than 24 hours! Widespread disastrous flooding occurred as a result of the rainfall and subsequent runoff across northern Illinois. We could use some rainfall but let’s hope the total amounts remain well below record levels.
